Animal Spa Game Guide and Tips
If you are into cozy games that run in the background while working, then you should play Animal Spa. It sits right at the bottom of your screen while you do your work on your computer. It’s not just a quick productivity app—it’s a full-fledged, non-intrusive idle game where you manage a charming bathhouse. Attract adorable animal guests, hire staff, place decorations, and run various facilities and amenities to earn coins and stars as you grow your spa.
There’s plenty to keep you engaged! Customize your baths by adjusting the temperature to suit your guests, hire staff to hand out flyers and bring in more visitors, set up private spas with special services to pamper special guests, and even expand your bathhouse by adding more floors as business grows. Best of all, Animal Spa runs passively, so your spa keeps operating while you focus on other things. My guide will help you run your bathhouse more efficiently and make the most of everything Animal Spa has to offer.
Quick Access
Getting Started
Animal Spa begins with a short tutorial. You get coins and stars as rewards for following Grandpa Maltese’s simple tasks to get started with the spa. Click on the Notice board to begin the tutorial. After completing a task given by Grandpa, click on the notice board again to claim your rewards. You will get a free staff worker, a cute Retriever, as reward after completing Grandpa Maltese’s third task. Staff workers do a lot of jobs to keep the operations running smoothly, such as restocking drink and snack facilities and keeping the spa clean.
You can enlarge the game window by pressing the Up Arrow key. To scroll the screen horizontally, use the Left and Right Arrow keys.
The Screenshot below provides a quick glance at the game UI. On the right side are all menu items stacked together. On the extreme left, you can change floors, lighting, view all floors at once and even move outdoors. At the bottom is the Remove mode to remove unwanted objects in your bathhouse, stars and coins you have earned so far and the settings menu. Always pay attention to the red exclamation mark above the notice board. Click on the notice board to find letters from happy customers, resumes from guests who are willing to join your team.
Setting up the Bath Temperature
The menu bar on the right contains six options. Click the first option to browse and select from a variety of bath types. At first, you can choose from only three bath types:
Tiled Bath: A basic bath with tile design.
Hinoki Bath: A bath made of Hinoki wood, offering a subtle woody fragrance, goes well with the wooden interiors.
Open Air Bath: A bath with a very close-to-nature design.
Locked baths can be unlocked once you have earned 3 or more medals. Refer the Medals segment of this walkthrough to know how to earn them.
You can also choose from small, medium and large baths. Just click on the appropriate size on the bottom. Medium and large sized baths can be great for accommodating many animals in a single bath, thereby saving space.
Choose a bath from the three options. At the start, the game sets up a bath for you, but you should purchase more to accommodate more visitors. Use the rewards earned from Grandpa Maltese’s tutorial to buy more baths.
Place the bath on an empty space. Next, click on it to choose the temperature. If it’s your first bath, and no visitors have entered your spa yet, choose “Warm” (Second option) as it is the common and preferable temp.
There are four temperature settings – Hot, Warm, Cold and Chilled (Icy Cold):
You can change the temperature settings of your bath anytime. Just click on it and choose a different setting.
Once guests start pouring in, click on a guest to know their temperature preference. Place new baths and set the temps as per their preferences.
To know a guest’s temperature preference, click on them and check out the Likes and Dislikes section.
In this screenshot below, I have clicked on the Black Cat to know his bath temperature preferences. The panel on the right-hand side, shows likes and dislikes – He Likes a WARM bath, but dislikes HOT and CHILLED (Snowflake Icon)
Knowing his likes, I have to set up a bath and set up WARM temperature. It’s not that he won’t sit on a HOT bath, but he will visit my spa more often knowing that his kind of WARM bath is available in it. You might also earn more coins and may even get stars if you meet a guest’s preferences by placing the things they like. Some of visitors who are happy with the services and have all their requirements met may even apply for the job of staff.
Other than bath temperature preferences, there are other likes and dislikes as well. We will learn more about them later in this guide.
Bath Border Decor
Click on a bath and select the second option at the bottom. You will find some really cool bath border decor to decorate your baths. Once you obtain three medals, you will unlock additional decor. Continue earning until 9 medals to unlock a whole set of border decor.
Hover your mouse cursor over a decor to know more about it. The free ones don’t cost coins. Although I don’t find any monetary benefits of adding border decor, but I guess they might help you attract more guests if added to a particular bath. Or maybe there are more chances of earning stars from guests if they sit on decorated baths.
Edit: You will unlock a special guest – the Golden Monkey if you place golden frog decor from bath border decor and golden koi status from the water decor. To know how to unlock it, refer the How to Unlock Animals segment.
Besides border decor, there are “Water Decor” – think plushies, toy ducks, lighting and bath bombs that can be put on the water. Click on a bath and choose the third option to add water decor. They can be placed only on medium and large baths.
Know Guest Preferences Before Placing Amenities
TL;DR: Click on an animal. Note down their likes and dislikes from the window that pops on the right side of the screen. Their preferences mainly hover around bath temperature, food and drinks. Pay attention to the icons under Likes and Dislikes. You will find matching icons when you mouseover a vending machine from the amenity’s menu. Place amenities with similar matching icons. Animals whose requirements are met will visit them more often than once. You will earn more coins, and maybe stars.
Guests will surely want to indulge in another soak after working up a sweat in the bath. But they will need places to rest and snack up on their favorite food and drink before another round. Placing Amenities, such as tea vending machines, ice cream machines, ramyun machines, hot dog stands, and slush machines will make guests more likely to return again and again.
Click on “Amenities” from the menu on the extreme right (It has a musical note icon). Choose a vending machine and place it on an empty space. You can divide your bathhouse between two or more parts, with one partition reserved only for amenities and the other for baths.
You will earn additional income every time guests use amenities placed on the bathhouse.
Before setting up amenities for your guests, make sure you know their likes and dislikes. Just as guests prefer their bath water at the perfect temperature (Hot, Warm Cold etc), they also have specific tastes when it comes to food and drinks.
Click on a guest and note down the icons next to bath temperature icons. See the screenshot below as an example:
In the above screenshot, the lemon and root vegetable icons were displayed under “Likes” when I clicked on the Monkey. Seems like he loves fruit and healthy food.
You will notice the same icons on the fruit drink vending machine and health drink vending machine. Place them and all Monkey guests will happily purchase fruit and health drinks as they align with their preferences:
Once you place these two amenities, monkeys will keep coming back for more. More visits mean more profits! Plus, you are more likely to earn stars from animals when their preferences are satisfied.
Decoration and Interior
The fourth and fifth menu items are not only for decorating your bathhouse, but also for managing space and organizing baths and amenities. Decoration costs coins.
Let’s start with the fourth menu – decoration. Under decoration you will find various categories at the bottom of the screen. Let’s find out what are they:
1. Bathhouse: In the first category, you will find bathhouse decor. You can place items of great use, such as vanity tables, toilets, dryers, tile shower stands, steam room backrest chair, electric fans, scales for checking weight, chairs, benches and wash basins.
2. Decorations: Contains all types of plants, stone decor, lightning and lanterns, ponds and shrubs.
3. Partitions: One of my favorite decors. They can help you to divide your room into multiple parts, with one part housing only baths, and the other parts having shower stands, amenities and operating facilities. There are panel corners that automatically connects panel edges of partitions at the corners, horizontal tile panel and vertical tile panel for dividing spaces. There are also cool looking stone partitions.
4. Shelf: from the shelf menu, you can purchase wooden shelves, tables, lockers, cabinets and refrigerators.
5. Wall: All types of wall decor will available here, including clocks, calendars, traditional lights, stone wall attachments, photo frames, mirrors, attachments and decorations.
6. Region-wise Decoration: Decor becomes available based on the regions you unlock, starting with Cherry Blossom City. After unlocking a region with a key (which requires 24 medals), you’ll gain access to decor specific to the region you chose when starting a new Animal Spa game.
Interior
The fifth menu item offers free floor and wall interiors. Click to choose a floor interior. Next, click and drag the chosen floor color/pattern all over the floor. Do the same for wall interiors.
How to Remove Objects
In Animal Spa, you may want to discard unwanted items from your bathhouse. Click on the “Remove Mode” (bulldozer icon) on the bottom of the screen.
Now click and drag over one or multiple objects to remove them.
Click on the Confirm button when a warning window pops up on the screen. All selected objects will be removed from your bathhouse. Right-click to cancel remove mode.
Build Additional Floors to Expand Your Spa
You will need to build more floors to have more space, add more baths and facilities once your customer base grows. To build an additional floor, click on the stairs with a green “+” symbol as shown in the screenshot below.
Click on the Expand button and spend 6000 coins to add another floor in your bathhouse. While adding a floor, the game will let you choose an interior preset. Choose one of three interiors and click on confirm.
You will be on the newly built floor after choosing an interior. To go back to the first floor, click on the downward pointing arrow in the “F” button on the left side. The number beside the F button shows you the current floor. You can build up to 5 floors in your bathhouse.
Assign Duties to Staff on Priority Basis and Improve Stats
At the start, you will be managing four staff members. Employees will have a blue glow around them. You can also distinguish them from other guests by equipping them with hats. Build the staff management locker from the operating facilities menu and choose a hat type and color. All employees will wear the same hat and of the same color, making it easy for you to distinguish between your employees and visitors.
Employee duties are restocking food and drink items in the amenities, restocking towel rack and wiping water from the floor. You can prioritize duties to each employee. If you want one of them to restock items in the amenities first and then wipe the floor, then click on the employee and choose “Start with Restocking” under Priority. The employee will always restock first and then perform other duties.
You can also assign employees to a particular floor if you have more than one floor. Click on an employee and choose a floor by pressing the arrow key under assigned floor. You will also see the status of an employee as “idle” or moving” under the assigned floor section.
Along with assigning duties, you can also improve your employee stats. Spend stars to improve their stats. Click on an employee to open his profile page on the right side of the screen. Click on the person icon on the bottom of the page. You will find four important stats of your employee:
Walking Speed: Increases movement speed.
Mopping Speed: Your employee will clean the floor and any puddles at a faster rate.
Restocking Speed: Faster restocking items in the vending machines and towel racks.
Staff Ability for Customer Service and Promotion: Boosts their ability to provide better customer service at certain places, such as the luxury private spa and bath supplies shop or while distributing flyers outside. Spend stars to improve this stat on those employees who have been assigned specific duties on such places.
Note: Each time you use stars to level up employee stats, the number of stars required for the next upgrades will increase.
How to Hire New Staff
You don’t need to advertise or request guests to join your staff. Happy visitors will be willing to join your team of employees. Be sure to regularly check the notice board and click on it whenever a red exclamation mark appears above it.
You’ll find resumes posted there:
Click on a resume. Read the letter. Scroll down and check their stats (Movement Speed, Water Cleaning Speed, Restocking Speed).
If you feel the guest will be a good fit for your staff, scroll down and click on the green button to spend 10-20 stars for hiring them.
If you think you don’t need them for their low stats or don’t have enough stars, press the reject button. You will keep getting resumes from guests to work in your spa. You can upgrade staff management features such as increasing the hiring limit and employee limit by placing the staff training room from the Operating Facilities menu.
Operating Facilities
It’s the third menu item and my absolute favorite. Operating facilities will help you to manage your bathhouse more efficiently. You can set your bathhouse’s entrance fee, trade animals with friends, distribute flyers outdoors to attract guests, place a luxury private spa exclusively for a single guest and many more.
Except for the first two, stars are required to purchase the other operating facilities. Let’s learn more about each operating facility and how to use them:
Towel Rack
Place additional tower racks as more and more guests visit your bathhouse. Costs 100 coins. Once you have placed it, click on it to change the towel color.
Towel Collection Bin
You may have noticed that animals take the towels with them when they leave your bathhouse. They put it on their heads and leave! To avoid this, purchase the towel collection bin for 100 coins so that the towels can be returned. Place it on an empty space in your bathhouse and animals will voluntarily keep return the towels.
Tip: Place the towel collection bin only after unlocking the Raccoon. It’s a special character and unlocks only when 100 guests leave with towels on their heads.
Exchange Computer
A computer that lets you trade animal guests with a friend. Costs 1 star. Once placed in your bathhouse, just make sure both you and your friend have Animal Spa open on your PCs. Then, click the Steam logo button below to connect with those friends.
You will receive any default guests your friend has that you don’t already own. Make sure to check your own default guest list before trading—your friend can also receive your guests if they’re missing any. If you both have the same default guest lineup, you will earn stars instead.
Staff Hat Management Locker
Best way to customize your staff. You can manage staff hats, change their type and color. Costs 3 stars. Place the locker on an empty space in your bathhouse and click on it. Choose a hat from the list. All hats are free.
Choose a hat type and then select a color of your choice. The chosen hat and color will be applied to all staff members. You can change the color and hat type anytime by clicking on the locker, but any changes will be applied to all staff members.
Jukebox
Changes the bathhouse’s music. Get it for 3 stars. Place the jukebox in your bathhouse and click on it. Select a music track by clicking the green play button overlay in the music list.
How to Unlock New Music on the Jukebox
You can get new music from your animal guests. Keep an eye on the notice board for letters from guests who are satisfied with your services, visit your spa regularly and have their food, drink, and bath requirements met. Letters are pinned to the notice board at random times. Keep an eye out for the exclamation mark above it.
Guests send cute letters. Do read them and then scroll down to the end of the letter to accept their token of appreciation in the form of stars and a new music.
This is how new music gets unlocked in the juke box. Click on the juke box to play them.
Mat Storage
Lets you change mats. Place the mat storage unit in your bathhouse and click on it. Choose a colorful map with a nice design and all mats will be replaced with the new ones. Purchase mat storage using 3 stars.
Operation Desk
This is where you can adjust the entrance fee of your bathhouse. You earn coins whenever guests enter your bathhouse. With the operating desk, you can increase or lower the entrance fee. The operation desk costs 5 stars.
High entrance fee will attract a smaller number of guests. Lowest entrance fee will attract more guests. The returnees will revisit your bathhouse at a faster rate. You can set the price at 3 (Lowest), 5 (Medium) and 7 (Highest). Choose the lowest rate if you want more guests. More guests = more earnings!
Make sure you have placed a good number of medium and large baths and amenities to accommodate a big number of guests if you have chosen the lowest entrance fee. This way you can do a better job at crowd management and also earn higher profits.
Staff Training Room
A place where you can upgrade staff management features. Costs 5 stars. Place the staff training room and you can upgrade the following:

Flyer Desk
One of my favorite Operating Facilities. Purchase it for 5 stars. Place it on empty space in your bathhouse and click on it to open a window on your right-hand side.
Select a staff member to distribute flyers outside. Once selected, the staff member will keep distributing flyers until you deselect them. Guests who obtain flyers from staff members and enter your bathhouse will give more stars than others.
You can view you staff member giving out flyers to guests. Click on the “Outdoor” button on the right side of the screen to move outside and see them doing their job diligently.
Time Desk
A mysterious space that lets you change outdoor time. Purchase it for 5 stars. After placing it in your bathhouse, click on it. You will find four symbols to adjust time:
Afternoon, Evening, Nighttime and Morning.
You can also check the “Sync outdoor time with system clock” option to match the outdoor environment with your local time. For example, if it’s 8 PM, the game’s outdoor scene will display nighttime.
Bath Supplies Shop
Sells bath supplies for use during showers. Costs 7 stars. Place it in an empty space and then click on it to assign a staff member. The staff member will sell bath supplies only to those guests that will use “shower objects”. These guests will also pay more when leaving.
To place shower objects in your bathhouse, click on “Decoration”. It’s just below Operating Facilities. Scroll down until you find “Tile Shower Stand” and “Tile Shower Seat”. They cost 50 coins.
Guests will purchase bath supplies from the shop and then use it to create bubbles at these shower objects. They will pay more coins when leaving.
You can view whether a guest has purchased something from the bath supplies shop by clicking on them.
Luxury Private Spa
This lets you creates a spa space exclusively for a single customer. Place it in the middle of the bathhouse. Do not place it in the corners if you want more customers to use it. You can pamper your single customer with extra services, such as green tea therapy, herbal therapy and fruit therapy in the private spa.
After placing the luxury private space on the bathhouse, click on it to assign a staff member.
Next click on the gear icon at the bottom of the private spa window to select up to three therapies. There are 8 therapies to select in the luxury spa package for your customer and each service has a time limit:
- Relax Care – Lasts 8 seconds
- Green Tea Therapy – 15 Seconds
- Meal Therapy – 15 Seconds
- Herbal Therapy – 15 Seconds
- Fatigue Focus Therapy – 12 Seconds
- Sweet Therapy – 15 Seconds
- Fruit Therapy – 15 Seconds
Tip: Did you notice the icons beside each therapy? You will find the same icons in the “Likes” and “Dislikes” page when you click on a guest. Click on a guest, note down their likes and dislikes. Some may like fruit, others tea. Just match the icons with the therapy icons. Next click on the Luxury Private Spa, click on the gear icon and then select only those services that matches their likes. Guests give more stars if their preferences (Likes) are met and also if you have upgraded a key stat of an employee. Click on an employee and level up the Staff Ability for Customer Service and Promotion stat.
Promotions Desk
It’s an office space that will attract more visitors of a specific type. So, if you want more cats to visit your spa, then place this desk, click on it and choose cat from the list of 8 default guest types. Learn more about guest types in the How to Unlock All Animals segment of this guide.
Before choosing a guest type, note down the visit chance percentage below it. You can increase the visit chance by allocating a portion of your gold coins to attract animals of a specific guest type. Click on the up-arrow button under “Budget” to allocate some coins as “Marketing Budget”. You will see the visit percentage increase for all selected guest types, suggesting that their chances of visiting your spa will be higher.
The budget decreases every 10 seconds and marketing will stop if you run out of gold. This means the marketing will continue once you have allocated coins to attract more visits of a particular animal type. To stop marketing, click on the down arrow to reduce budget to 0.
How to Earn Stars
Stars are used to hire staff, improve employee stats, purchase operating facilities and upgrade staff management features. Here are a few ways to earn stars in Animal Spa:
1. Happy Guests Give More Stars: Chances of earning stars from employees are higher when you fulfill all their bath, food and drink requirements. Also, make sure you Click on a guest and open their page on the right side of the screen, pay attention to the symbols under “Likes” and “Dislikes”. You will find the icons on the bath settings, and certain vending machines when you click on them. Guests usually have a likening for a specific bath temperature, food and drink type. Read the Setting Bath Preferences and Know Guest Preferences Before Placing Amenities in this walkthrough to know how to fulfill all guest requirements. Happy guests will not only visit your bathhouse regularly but also give stars.
2. Distribute Flyers: You will need to place the flyer desk in your bathhouse to start distributing flyers. Click on the operating facilities menu on the right side of the screen and purchase the flyer desk using 5 stars. You can obtain stars from happy customers, so earning 5 stars will be quite easy at the start of play.
Once you have placed the flyer desk, click on it, assign a staff member and that’s it! A staff member will go outdoors and start giving flyers to customers. You can view all this by clicking on the “Outdoor” button icon on the left to move outside and see your employee distributing flyers.
Customers who take the flyer and enter your bathhouse will give more stars.
3. Place the Luxury Private Spa: To learn more, refer to the Luxury Private Spa segment under Operating Facilities in this guide.
4: Read Letters from Happy Customers: Happy and satisfied customers will post letters on the notice board at random occasions. Click on the notice board whenever you see an exclamation mark above it. Click on a letter, read and scroll down to accept rewards. You will obtain 25 stars and a piece of new music that can be played in the jukebox.
5: Get Stars from the Computer: To learn more, refer to the Exchange Computer segment under Operating Facilities in this guide.
6: Place Decor: Add hot spring decorations and adorn your baths to have a higher chance of earning stars from guests.
How to Unlock All Animals
At the start, a default guest list will appear on the screen. The list shows 8 different animal types. They will be regular visitors at your spa. These 8 different animal types are:
Cat, Mouse, Dog, Rabbit, Monkey, Sheep, Otter and Bear.
Only four of the animal types will be unlocked right from the beginning. In my game, it was Monkey, Rabbit, Sheep and Cat. In your game, the default guest combo may be different.
On the far-right side of the screen, click on the Staff and Codex (Book Icon) to open the menu.
Then, navigate to the “Characters” section.
Here, you’ll find a total of 40 animal characters to unlock. You might be wondering why there are 40, especially when the guest list only shows 8 types of animals. That’s because each animal type has multiple variations. For example, the Cat has four different versions: Yellow, Black, Tabby, and Turkish. Similarly, the Bear comes in Brown, Black, Polar, and Panda forms.
To unlock them, you will need to fulfill certain requirements. Move your mouse over a locked animal’s picture to know how to unlock it. So far, I have found the unlocking requirements of these animals. Most of the animals will be unlocked passively. For example, to unlock the black cat, the yellow cat should visit your spa 25 times. The best way to make sure a particular animal visits regularly is to fulfill their bath temperature, food and drinks requirements. I have explained this in the Setting Up Bath and Placing Amenities segment of this guide.

And here’s how to unlock special guests:

| Beaver | 1000 guests should slip on puddles. Make sure you upgrade the last upgrade in the Staff Training Room – “Floors cleaned by employees will not again get wet for a while” only after a thousand guests slip on puddles. |
| Golden Monkey | Place the medium sized golden tile bath and click on it. Click on the bath border deco option on the bottom of the bath window and choose golden frog decor. Next, click on the water deco option and choose Golden Koi statue. |
| Hamster | When guests use facilities, they may give stars. Earn 300 such stars to unlock the Hamster. |
| Red Panda | The most boring way to unlock this special guest. Go outdoors and watch the outdoors for an hour or so to unlock the red panda. |
| Raccoon | This was my first special guest. You will unlock it when 100 guests leave your bathhouse with towel on their head. Place the towel collection bin only after 100 guests leave with towel on their head. |
No Space for Movement?
If you see red question marks above a guest, it means they can’t move and their path is blocked by an object. Click on an object that’s blocking their path and you will see a cross above it. Drag the cross to move the object to some other area.
Guide to Medals
Medals are passively earned when you complete certain objectives in Animal Spa. You can view these objectives by clicking on the Staff and Codex (Book Icon) > Medal. There are eight categories and under each category, you will find 4 objectives. You will earn bronze, silver, gold and platinum medals when you fulfill 4 objectives one by one:

When you earn a certain number of medals, you unlock new baths, amenities and bathhouse decor. Collecting all 32 in a single save slot will earn you the “Spa Master” achievement. But one very important function of medals is that they can be used to unlock new regions (Stages).
Earn 24 medals to get a key. The key will allow you to start a new game, but with a new region. You can track how many medals you have earned so far from Staff and Codex > Medal. Look at the bottom of the medals section.
