Midnight Scenes: A Safe Place – Complete Walkthrough

Very few people are familiar with the traumas of a shell-shocked mind. Until you experience the horrors of life itself, you don’t develop the defense mechanisms to protect yourself from the aftermath of such incidents.

Going into Midnight Scenes: A Safe Place I wasn’t expecting much. A simple visual novel with meh graphics, and some horror sprinkled in it. Boy, was I mistaken. The game is a genuine horror piece, demonstrating the lengths the human mind will go to protect oneself from reliving a trauma. Here is a complete walkthrough of the game. Hope you guys enjoy it, but be warned; the game is not easy to stomach.

9:20 AM

You meet Phil, a shut-in who has barricaded himself in his room for 30 days. We don’t know why he chooses to do so, but any attempt to open the door cripples his mental fortitude. He is haunted by grotesque demon-like creatures in his dreams or whenever he thinks of venturing outside of his room.

After following the prompts and clicking the step counter, you’ll have a list of options. There are no wrong choices, simply pick each one serially.

Eat

After selecting Eat, click on the Closet. Click on any food item on the top shelf and then pick the cooking pot to start cooking.

Clean up after you’re done.

Pee

After selecting Pee, click on the closet and select an empty bottle.

Once you’re done peeing, click on the closet to store the filled bottle. Phil will then proceed to throw all the filled bottles into the garbage. To help him find a bag and rope to slide down bottles click on the cardboard box below the window and then select the fishing line.

Next, click on the paper bin to search for a bag. Once you have everything, grab the bottle icon from the bottom left part of the screen and drag it over the plastic bag. Repeat the same with the fishing line.

Finally, drag the entire thing to the window.

Once outside the window, click on the trash can to lower the bag.

After the bag gets stuck on the branch, click on it to attempt to release it.

Phil faints after he cuts his hand and is awoken by his mother calling from outside the room. You can pick either of the options after he wakes up.

Warm Myself

Click on the heater, and click on the top shelf to locate the lighter. 

Next, drag the lighter to the heater to light it up.

Socialize

After selecting Socialize, click on the telescope.

Use the arrows near the viewfinder to drag the scope and see your surroundings. Keep dragging to either side until the arrows disappear.

You’ll eventually stumble upon Noelle, Phii’s best friend and key character in the story.

At night, you’ll chat with Noelle watch a movie with her, and reminisce about the past.

Next Morning

After waking up, head to the computer and buy items online.

After booting the computer, click on the Hayashi Groceries Online shopping icon and complete the purchase.

You’ll be met with a card temporarily canceled screen. Close it. After this simply keep following the story until you come across the next time stamp.

2:45 PM

After waking up, you’ll be confronted by your father. Pick any option you like, it doesn’t matter, because you won’t be talking anyway.

Once you’ve calmed down, click on the phone and select confirm.

After going through his daily routine, Phil will start chatting with Noelle once again. Pick either option when the topic of Phil’s dad comes up.

Following the incident, Noelle will share an invite with you, and accept it.

Simply keep following the prompts until you wake up from the next nightmare. Click on the TV to watch the news and approach the telescope to explore the outside world.

First, scroll to strafe left and go right until you spot Noelle’s house. After that, you’ll notice an altercation between your parents and your sister Piper. Talk to her.

Pick all the opinions while you’re talking to her.

Once Piper leaves, everything turns red. Approach your computer and click on the screen.

You’ll come across a puzzle game. Find the word ‘Prospero’ in the crossword puzzle to proceed.

In the next step, arrange the pieces to make a portrait of your sister.

After experiencing yet another nightmare, you’ll wake up to your phone’s ringing. Click on the heater to light it up and warm the room.

9:30 PM

The heater soon runs out of gas, after which Piper slides a note under the door. Click on it to read. After you’re done, the power goes out and Phil eyes the telescope to view his surroundings.

Keep dragging to the right until you come across a shadowy figure carrying a gun.

8:00 AM

After waking up, you’re taken to Noelle’s home and get to play from her perspective for a while. After reaching the breakfast table, interact with all the objects on it.

Once outside, keep clicking left, towards the direction of the grocery store. Once inside, keep going left and talk to Noelle’s mom.

5:05 PM

Noelle is visiting Phil with a fresh supply of groceries. Click to the right to make her move toward Phil’s house. Pick up the pebble on the road before you proceed.

Click on Phil’s window and then click directly below to leave the supplies under there.

Now grab the pebble from the lower left part of the screen and drag it to his window.

Once Phil has bought the supplies inside, click on the closet to restock everything.

Phil goes to sleep after eating the chocolate bar but wakes up with a stomach cramp. He’s gravely ill, needs immediate medication and the only way to procure it is to leave his room.

Click on the cabinet, the skis, the latch, and finally on the door to escape the room. Once you’re out, go downstairs and tiptoe your way to the bathroom.

Click on the cabinet after entering the bathroom, and finally select the pills.

After escaping the bathroom, you see two shadowy figures before blacking out and waking up the next day.

11:15 AM (Ending)

After waking up the next morning Phil overhears his parents talking about Piper who ran away from home once again. Just keep following the prompts until Noelle’s mom calls her into her office. Click on the chair to sit down.

Noelle learns that her father is diagnosed with lung cancer and wants to spend whatever time he has left close to him. Phil doesn’t take the news of Noelle being away for months lightly. She’s his only friend and being scared of losing the only human connection has left, he blurs out selfish comments.

Phil becomes paranoid and bashes his head against the wall. He faints instantly and falls on the floor.

While he’s unconscious, he’s met with the shadowy figures that haunt his dreams. At this point it’s gradually becoming clear these are painful suppressed memories that are trying to surface.

Noelle is worried that Phil might do something to hurt himself. So she and her mother visit him home to warn his parents and also to check on him. Meanwhile is still going in and out of consciousness and in doing so he is finally reliving the past trauma that derailed his whole life.

Finally, in the last scene, Noelle and her mother approach Phil’s house and click on the door to open it. The door will be locked so click on the Clay Statuette on the porch to find the key. Drag the key to the door to open it and enter inside.

After Noelle flips on the switch, she meets with the dead bodies of Phil’s mother, father, and sister in the living room.

Piper shot both her parents before putting the gun in her mouth and taking her own life.

As Phil gains consciousness in his room, guide him downstairs where he’ll eventually face Noelle and everything is revealed.

The story concludes with Phil being transported to the hospital in an ambulance.
